About this event
Experience the timeless art of Shibori at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, where tradition, nature, and making come together in a uniquely immersive setting.
In this one-day workshop, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of indigo resist dyeing, exploring how folding, binding, and shaping cloth creates intricate patterns in deep, luminous blue. Guided by Suzanne Connors of Aizome Studio, you’ll work with natural indigo to produce your own one-of-a-kind textiles while learning the history and cultural significance of Shibori in Japan.
Surrounded by the tranquility of Morikami’s gardens, this workshop invites a slower pace—encouraging attention to process, material, and the subtle transformation of cloth through dye. Suitable for beginners and experienced makers alike, this experience offers both practical skills and a deeper connection to an enduring textile tradition.
