Palm Beach County Fire Rescue pulled people from floodwater for three straight days
The 5AM West Palm Beach team
Sunday evening, starting around 5 p.m., Palm Beach County Fire Rescue took more than seventy 911 calls from the Century Village area. Nearly 100 residents were trapped in vehicles. Crews found floating cars with people inside and water 3 to 4 feet deep in places. Drones with thermal cameras helped find them, and no injuries were reported.
On Monday night, the swiftwater team headed to Riviera Beach for nearly 24 hours, using rafts and boats to check homes door to door. It evacuated 71 people and nine pets and made two medical rescues. City Manager Williams Wilkins said more than 19 inches of rain fell in 12 hours.
